Post-Truth. Post-Empire. Post-Alles.
The Anté Dote (l) and Robin K (r)
The power of two : The Union Black is concerned with the delicate balance between order and chaos... and riffs. If "Great artists steal"*, then this act certainly summons the spirits of their forebears and re-casts them into a twisted, trippy force of nature : Anté, haunted by the ghosts of Hendrix and Gil Scott-Heron, incarnated as a bass-player with a punk-rock metal heart. And while Navajo is very much a rock(-ing) band, drummer Robin's influences include Vinnie Colaiuta, Hiromi Uehara, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, among others.
The result? An elemental whirlwind of noise, rhythm and intense warped melodies and (sometimes) hard-hitting spoken words which pull no punches; the band in turns invite, threaten and challenge listeners on a journey across a devastated yet beguiling landscape painted in real-time by musicians riding at the edge their imaginations, abilities and - perhaps - sanity.
The Union is dead.
Long Live The Union Black.
